Self-care is important for everyone. It's a skill we often need to learn because it may feel selfish to put our own well-being first. On Sunday, June 26th, a fundraising event around self-care was hosted by Posh Beauty Bar and Wear Your Label with proceeds to Liberty Lane.
Wear Your Label is a clothing and accessory company that is breaking down the stigma around mental illness. You can "wear your label" on you as a way to bring the issues out in the open. In fact one of the t-shirts states, "Self-Care isn't Selfish". The company started here in Fredericton, and they are now selling to an international market. Liberty Lane thanks WYL for their support; they are donating 10% of proceeds from their merchandise sold at the event and on-line! As for Posh Beauty Bar, this place knows how to pamper! Self-care is easy to achieve when you stop in for services at Posh. Owner, Maria Hanna, is friendly, warm and excited about all of us feeling our best. They were the hostesses with the mostesses! In their capacity as a national company, and indeed, as an international company, UPS gives back to the community in many ways. We'd like to recognize what they have done for Liberty Lane in the the past few years; -a community grant to cover the printing costs of our pamphlets -two Day of Caring activities two different years through United Way Central NB -held a bake sale fundraiser on International Women's Day 2016 for Liberty Lane -AND the most overwhelming way they helped was a UPS Foundation Grant of $32,500 to ensure our women and children have beds, cribs, car seats, access to computers in a resource centre, desks for that centre, a storage barn, and furniture for our group room. Liberty Lane wanted to thank UPS for the grant and show them what we bought with it, but words can't say enough, so we took pictures of the items we purchased. You'll need to do some visualization, but those photos turned into this: |
