Recognizing Domestic Violence

It can be difficult for victims to recognize and accept the signs that they are in an abusive relationship. It is not uncommon for victims to assume responsibility for the abuse, rather than blame their partner. Victims may believe that if they change their own behavior, they can prevent the abuse from happening and save their relationship. Indeed, survivors of domestic violence often report feelings of shame, fear, uncertainty, and guilt. Recognizing the signs of abuse is often the first step in a victim’s journey to survivorship.

At Liberty Lane, we aim to help victims of abuse and those who support them to recognize signs of domestic violence, and to develop a deeper understanding of the patterns of abuse. Below is a list of helpful tools that we use daily with our clients – feel free to use these resources and share them widely!
