Liberty Lane Shares a Heavy Heart with Our City

Like everyone in Fredericton and across the province, the staff and volunteers at Liberty Lane are incredibly saddened by the four deaths that occurred on August 10th, 2018. These tragic deaths affect everyone in our city in some capacity. Liberty Lane has a connection to the family of Constable Sara Burns in that her husband, Steven, was one of the two key personalities in "Burns & Jones' Long Long Walk for Liberty Lane" earlier this summer. We at Liberty Lane consider ourselves extremely fortunate to have worked with Steven and our deepest condolences are with him and his family in this time of grief. The staff and volunteers at Liberty Lane extend our sympathies to all of the victims and their families.

Keep the chatter coming!!!!

Jones & Burns’ Long, Long Walk for Liberty Lane

Local businessmen Brian Jones and Steven Burns are walking from Edmundston to Fredericton to raise money for Liberty Lane. The walk will start in Edmundston on June 10 and end in Fredericton on June 16 at the Fredericton Boyce Farmers Market.

The two lifelong friends have a history of doing unusual fundraising events. Two years ago they spent a week on a roof and raised over $70,000.00 for local food banks. Before that Jones took on hikes across deserts and the North Pole raising money for local charities.

“We definitely challenge each other,” says Jones, a TD Wealth Investment Advisor. “I would say I push the physicality and endurance aspects of these fundraisers while Steve pushes the financial goals. When we started talking about the walk, Steve gulped a bit at the distance and I gulped a bit at the $100,000.00 goal. We both know we are going to do it but it takes us out of our comfort zones.”

“I shake my head at some of the stuff he comes up with,” adds Burns, CEO and Co-Founder of Bulletproof Solutions. “I love raising the money, love drawing the attention to Liberty Lane but I admit I am less excited about walking that long, long distance. A marathon a day. What are we thinking?”

The two set the $100,000.00 fundraising goal based on their past efforts and their confidence in the Fredericton businesses. “Fredericton business people care a lot about our community. You see it in how they volunteer their time, support local causes and donate to events like this,” says Burns.

Since they announced this event on a Facebook video last week the video has been seen more than 5000 times. “The initial response has been incredible,” says Burns. “I love seeing the views go viral across our social connections. The next step is to get everyone clicking the DONATE button to help us achieve our goal. Knowing that we helped raise $100,000.00 for this cause, for women and children facing abuse, will be incredible. Such a good cause, such an important part of our community.

One step at a time, changing lives!
