Forms of Cyber Violence

Cyber violence can take on a number of forms. See below the different types of cyber violence, and access to resource links on steps to take if you are being targeted by a form of cyber violence.
 
Online Harassment

Definition: Online discrimination, harassment, and/or threats against a person or group, often on the basis of their gender, appearance disability, sexual orientation, race, etc. This can be done through text messaging, social media, email, or any other interactive online platform.

Cyber Stalking

Definition: The repeated use of electronic communications to harass or frighten someone including but not limited to harassment, humiliation and embarrassment of the person targeted, harassing family, friends and employers, tactics to make the target fearful and taking on the identity of the other person.

Blackmail & Extortion

Definition: The crime of threatening to reveal embarrassing or damaging information about a person to the public, family, or associates unless that person buys blackmailer’s silence
