               FIERCE  Online

FIERCE is designed to promote Freedom, Inspiration, Education, Resilience, Collective support and Empowerment.  This group covers a series of topics which are organized by theme into four different modules: self esteem, assertiveness, other life skills and domestic/intimate partner violence.  The topics within each module are related but not interdependent, so participants can choose which sessions to complete based on their own particular interests and availability.

This online version of FIERCE has been developed in response to the COVID-19 pandemic and is structured differently than the former in-person version of the group.  Each session is broken down into two separate components: an independent learning component and a collaborative learning component.

Independent Learning Component
  • Can be completed at any time, as all of the resources are available below.
  • Resources include:
    1. a pre-recorded introduction to the session topic by the group facilitator(s)
    2. a variety of informational materials
    3. a variety of exercises/activities
  • Some resources have been marked as high priority to ensure that everyone has a common frame of reference when it comes time for the collaborative learning component.  All other resources are optional, but participants are strongly encouraged to review them as well whenever possible.

Collaborative Learning Component
  • Offered on an ongoing basis throughout the year.  Click here for the current calendar.
  • Completed via online audio/video conference call (Zoom).  Registered participants will be e-mailed the link in advance.  Each call will be scheduled to last 1 hour and 15 minutes, and will be open to a maximum of 10 participants.
  • Opportunity to explore the session topic with others through group exercises/activities and discussions (structured and unstructured).
  • To help create a safe space and positive experience for everyone, it is important for participants to review the group protocols before joining any calls.  The protocols are explained to participants upon registration and a copy can be found here.
